It is just a case of who he has been matched up against. Against Mosley it was necessary to walk him down ensuring that he didn't get an opportunity to fight back. Against Ortiz well that ended too quickly to draw any comparisons. Against Cotto he was against an opponent who could successfully cut the ring off moving around would have expended too much energy.

I wonder how many people box or actually know the sport..you have legs for a reason and learn footwork for a reason..movement makes your opponent think and opens up counter opportunities..you can set traps and make them walk into punches they dont see and tire them out while frustrating them...it is the sweet science...who in the hell wants to take punches???Martinez set Williams up perfectly walking backwards then BOOOOOM williams was sleep......
