Top Gun & Pulp Fiction are some of my favourites OSTs, too.
The most recent soundtrack I heard was Curtis Mayfield - Superfly. I thought it was brilliant.
Top Gun is a mental soundtrack, man, underrated. I single that one out because Pulp Fiction is so acknowledged, Top Gun more unfairly overlooked, but it's BOSS.
Love the Curtis, too.
Trouble Man soundtrack by Marvin is insane, don't know how I forgot that.
Lalo Schifrin scores are awesome.
Too many blaxploitation soundtracks to list here, but the Black Caesar score (where I took 'Mama's Dead' from) is a biggie.
Ahhhh, I forgot the 'Mickey's Monkey' scene in Mean Streets. That's as great as the 'Pledging My Love' scene'. I know Stones! digs the 'Please Mr. Postman' scene - that's killer, too.
I don't actually like what he did with the production/arrangement for that score, but there's a clip of Daniel Lanois playing one of his pieces for Sling Blade straight-up on the pedal-steel in the DVD extras for that movie...and it is mindblowing.
He should've arranged the score natural like that...I really don't dig Lanois as a producer much.
