Oldham's welterweight prospect Ronnie Heffron will take on former British light-welter and welterweight champion David Barnes at Salford's Bowlers Exhibition Centre on October 12 in a classic crossroads meeting of youth and experience. Dave Coldwell of Coldwell Boxing confirmed the news to BoxingScene earlier this evening and has revealed that the contest will take place over ten three-minute rounds.

This idiot (me) thought Barnes was going somewhere about 8 years ago. He was lucky against Vincent but he fell apart once he stepped above British level. I wasn't thinking World Champ but at least something on the Euro level.

Still, I think he'll get past Heffron, if he comes in motivated, and that could set up a all Manc meeting with Denton Vassell.
