As the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 Approaches, Do you think we are safer now that Bin Laden is dead?

It's scary to think that more attacks were planned around the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 nightmare. The terrorists are down but not completely out.

Osama Bin Laden Evidence: Al Qaeda Considered 9/11 Anniversary Attack

Some of the first information found in Osama bin Laden's compound indicates al Queda considered attacking train services in the U.S.

An early read of the materials seized from Osama bin Laden's compound has not yet produced evidence of a specific, imminent terror plot against the U.S., but does show the group continues to have murderous aspirations, according to U.S. officials and to documents obtained by ABC News.

The trove of evidence U.S. Navy SEALs recovered during their raid of Bin Laden's compound, which cost the al Qaeda leader his life, shows that al Qaeda remained fixated on so-called soft targets like transportation.

A new bulletin issued tonight by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security and obtained by ABC News describes the terror organization's chilling desire to derail a train.

"As of February 2010, al-Qa'ida was allegedly contemplating conducting an operation against trains at an unspecified location in the United States on the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001," the document reads, using an alternate spelling for bin Laden's terror group. "As one option, al-Qa'ida was looking into trying to tip a train by tampering with the rails so that the train would fall off the track at either a valley or a bridge."

"You can't guard hundreds of miles of track," said ABC News consultant and former White House counterterrorism advisor Richard Clarke. "And if they can get to one location that is not well guarded and put explosives on it or do something to cause the train to derail that's a lot easier than going after an aircraft."

In a statement, DHS press secretary Matt Chandler stressed that the message it sent out to its rail partners about a potential al Qaeda plot was "based on initial reporting, which is often misleading and inaccurate and subject to change. We remain at a heightened state of vigilance, but do not intend to issue [a National Terrorism Advisory System] alert at this time." Chandler said the Transportation Security Administration would also send a bulletin to its rail sector stakeholders.

"We have no information of any imminent terrorist threat to the U.S. rail sector, but wanted to make our partners aware of the alleged plotting," said Chandler.

Chandler said that since Sunday, DHS had taken "a number of actions," including adding additional officers at airports and reviewing protective measures for potential terror targets.

The information on a potential rail attack was among a variety of conerns being shared with Homeland Security and regional authorities, and it was not yet known what other soft targets might have considered.

According to Richard Clarke, the fact that such proposals were discovered in bin Laden's possession shows how integral he still appeared to be to terror plots.

The evidence appears to confirm that Bin Laden still had a role in approving al Qaeda plots, just he did for the 9/11 terror attack.

One U.S. official told ABC News the materials found at the bin Laden hideout included schematics and websites involving a variety of plots al Qaeda was considering.

One official described the documents reviewed so far as "aspirational" but not indicative of final stage planning.

There's still plenty of pissed of muslims about, and the "recent death" of an exaggerated boogeyman and leader of a mythical organization will do nothing to prevent the risk of further attacks in future.

I think the death of Bin Laden at the time it came was largely irrelevant but it did come as part of a protracted campaign against terror networks that have severely diminished the capacity for networked terror groups to operate.

We are never safe from terrorism just like we are never safe from drunk driving, rape, molestation, spousal abuse, and all sorts of crime. People tend to be extremist or moderate, liberal or conservative, laid back or a go getter.

The only thing we are going to be judge by our future selves and future generations is how we acted after such maligned crimes. If you look at it after 9/11 we went to war, increased surveillance into the people's private lives disregarding our constitutional rights, made the war into a mercenary war (there are more contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan than real soldiers), the TSA which doesn't impede terrorist attack but it can see through your clothes, Homeland Security does nothing but produce rules and regulations that doesn't match up with other regulatory agencies, and many more.

I think honestly we, Americans, over reacted after 9/11. The U.S. government pulled all its resources to go after terrorism while NASA is now bankrupt (closed in Florida), the government owes Social Security a lot of money, and other social services are being cut.

About Social Security think of this for a moment:

There are more people working than retiring remember this.

In the United States there are 300 Million plus citizens more than half of them are working people. The people who work pay Social Security through taxes you see it in your W2 form.

Now, how is Social Security costing the government money when there are more people paying into it? The reason is the government keeps taking money away from Social Security. Imagine this, you are Social Security with a Savings Account, Now, the U.S. government is your older brother whose Regular Account has been bankrupt for a long time because of the wars and it has no Savings Account to speak off since it hasn't had a surplus budget for a long time.

Now your older brother (U.S. government) goes and borrow from your Savings Account over and over again. That is what is happening with Social Security the U.S. government invaded its Savings Account. You know what happens when you put money away in a Savings Account? It earns interest those 0.8% interest makes money over time. But what did the U.S. government do with the interest that the Social Security money should be making? The U.S. government suspended it because it will owe the Social Security a lot of money. Funny, the U.S. government took the Social Security money and it doesn't even want to pay any interest on it.

Yea, whenever I hear a Republican saying Social Security will put the government and the country into more debt they are just talking out of their rear end.

Over reacted? I don't think so. America needs to be secure from the ever increasing scourge of terrorism but unfortunately the government can't pay for everything else.
