mass hysteria, either way. if people are terrified of other countries, other beliefs, and other skin colors then I don't see why they wouldn't be terrified of an alien race. them coming in peace would be seen with large skepticism.

it would take millions of years to get here from another solar system so people would want to know why exactly they are here.

read sagan's "contact" it's theme runs parallel to this thread of yours... or you could watch the film adaptation by bob zemmeckis... its good, but not as good as the book...

they almost surely wouldn't come to our planet.

interstellar space travel wouldn't be something you'd go about idly. the closest star is several lightyears away. that's several times the distance light travels in an entire year.


now, maybe we get a broadcast. it really wouknd't mean too much. it would take forever to collaborate. if we did make contact, it might take generations.

If governments could keep it to themselves they would. If the aliens were peaceful I think they would be observers and would not want to freak people out.
