She is Brazilian and I was speaking Spanish, she was speaking Portuguese and there was another Brazilian lady that I thought was her mother who was translating or helping out a little. I find out now that she's 16 years old, what a freaking bummer, I cannot even try anything now. I am sure 16 year olds in Brazil is legal though.

it's not actually. in certain jurisdictions the age of consent is 14 (if the partner is no more than two years older than the girl (or guy as the case may be).

I wasn't counting exceptions like this. Most US states are the same, in terms of deferring to an age-based differential up until 21.
