  • Who was more dangerous for Mayweather in 2007: ODLH, Margarito or Paul Williams

Oscar de la hoya at 154.......who chose the gloves, the brand, the ring size, glove size, and weight the fight would be set

    or

Paul Williams whose best wins at that point were over a shot Sharmba Mitchell and Margarito himself

or Margarito who was wbo titlist until he lost to williams and had wins over Andrew "6 heads" Lewis and Kermit Cintron

I see him get criticized for not fighting these guys but its kind of hard to call it ducking when you faced a larger, more accomplished fighter,

IMO DLH was more dangerous and just flat out a better fighter than Margarito and Williams who lost to lesser fighters before and after returned in 2009

    whats your 2 cents

Oscar was a better fighter than those other two. More big fight experience and more importantly Oscars jab. That length with that jab is more of a stylistic threat to Floyd than anything those other two guys can do.

Oscar didn't pull any stops to ensure a win....Floyd wanted to fight him at 147 considering he only had like 5-6 fights over 135

He took a risk and got the reward.

This fight is a great example of how in order to become a star you have to concede to the A side, and proof you can win with your back against the wall

I agree..he was flat out more skilled

Williams had height and reach but fought like he was 5'6"....ended up getting outboxed the next year by average Carlos Quintana

Maragrito literally lost to every elite fighter he faced....lost early fights to no names....and decent but not great Daniel Santos had his number

I just dont see how these guys could be considered ducks or bigger threats when odlh was more dangerous, experienced and skilled than those two.

            floyd didn't fight williams

paul was very beatable, but you was gonna have to work for it.

Well Oscar would have been favourite to beat Margarito and Williams in '07.... so that answers the question really.

Styles make fights, and Margarito and P Will in their primes with their height and size and high pressure style and stamina would be tough for Floyd.

Oscar would beat P Will and Margarito in their primes, but that is because its a styles match up, but P will and MArgarito will be super difficult for Floyd, he will be in a dog fight with those guys. again styles make fights.

Just look at the Maidana fights, and Castillo fights, Floyd struggled big time and should have lost both the first fights, but in the rematch he was able to run and jab because they didn't have the size and reach on him, but imagine Margarito and P Will pressuring floyd with their height and reach and stamina?

Floyd would need serious power to keep those guys off him, he would likely break his hands and wind up on his knees like Cotto toward the later rounds, he will gas from backing up he wouldn't be able to man handle them and clinch because that would be negative on him they would tire him out weighing on him.

Oscar is a easier fight for Floyd, even in Oscars prime because Oscar was a boxer puncher, he wasn't a pressure fighter, Floyd likes to fight guys like this because its easier for him to see when they will punch and they dont throw combos unpredictable, so he just leaves his legs super wide so they cant come in close, this style of leaving your lead leg wide is only possible in boxing rules, since you have no threat of leg kicks or a takedown.

Only weapon Oscar will have is a left jab, Floyds main glaring weakness is a left straight, lead left or left sharp jab. He gets hit with it a lot, because he loves pulling back a lot.

Nice job trying to defend why Floyd never fought Margarito or Williams. I guess that was the point of you making this thread.

you dont get credit for fights not happening

he moved up by 2008....he took a loss to Quintana in 2008

he blew it losing to a fox sports nation level opponent. Quintana was decent but lost to every top welterweight he faced

those guys were fighting each other from 2007-2009....they had more to gain fighting each other than a prospect with an alphabet trinket
