Do i put it on the plants or in the soil?

The cinnamon would go on the soil around it, also kinda helps with rabbits too..

I'd just plant a few rosemary and lavender, works easier and you can use the herb later. They're real easy to grow and will do fine in any basic garden situation.

What kind of stuff do you grow?

For fruit, not much is needed in my area. Vegetables I use organic sprays which usually are just a solution of mint and other herbs.

If you want to plant stuff to repel there's alot of info online for whatever you're trying to keep away. Generally I usually have herbs like cilantro, chives, mint, basil, garlic planted around/throughout my vegetables.
