No one is questioning how good the lakers were with shaq and Kobe, but the league really took a hit from late 90s to about 6-7 years ago..
Once they eliminated high schoolers being drafted the league became better..

The list of teams from the east to make finals would have never made it in previous eras..

Lebron and some cleveland scrubs
Plus you had those awful Pierce and walker Celtic teams being a "contender"

It wasn't till shaq landed in Miami and Garnett in Boston that the east had actual teams capable of winning titles.. The rest of the years post-jordan was basically bad teams being carried by a superstar like lebron, kidd, iverson, etc..
