Ruddock fought Tyson twice in 1991. In 1990 he won three fights, two over clubfighters and one impressive KO over Dokes. You must be seeing something that I'm not.

Holyfield ducked him and so did Bowe

Thats why he fought those lower caliber fighters

After another KO win over Kimmuel Odum in 1990 Ruddock was now seen as the most feared and exciting heavyweight since Mike Tyson burst onto the boxing scene in 1985 with many[who?] ranking his power with that of the Heavyweight greats like George Foreman. Ruddock would hold talks with the new heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield fresh from his KO win over James 'Buster' Douglas. Holyfield refused the fight and opted to fight 42 year old George Foreman instead. Ruddock would turn his attentions to another up and coming star Riddick Bowe, and held talks with Bowe's management about a possible fight between the two but again Ruddock was unable to get the big fight he craved as Bowe would refuse the fight and opted to fight little known Philipp Brown instead.

Ruddock was unknown to most American fans. Foreman was a living legend. Of course Holyfield would fight Foreman first. That's where the money was. Why would Bowe want to fight someone who just got blown out by his arch rival? There was nothing he could do to top it. No demand for it and no reason for it.

The one that strucks my mind was Gerald McClellan vs Bernard Hopkins in 1994, that year, the G-Man was supposed to fight Lamar Parks, but Gilbert Baptist, a Parks' victim, took the fight on a short notice to replaced Parks.

Hopkins, who had also beaten Baptist, later that year fought for the vacant IBF belt against Segundo Mercado after Roy moved up to fight Toney.

Interesting if Hopkins was the one taken in Parks' place, we would see Bernard probably getting knockout by McClellan, B-Hop went down twice against Mercado in salvaging a draw, before his long reign as a middleweight champion.
