The fight sells 700k on PPV which equals around 42 Million, after 50 ^ of that goes to the PPV providers there is enough to pay both fighters purses. Top Rank is gonna make their money from the gate. 23k sold tickets at an average of lets say 120 bucks equals
2.7 Million so its a win win situation for everybody

martinez will not take 25%. look at cotto's payday for rodriguez. it's obvious that martinez brings a ton of this money. it's because of him that this fight would be for the lineal MW title, that can be traced all the way back to bernard hopkins.

and LOL at your last paragraph.

if cotto loses to the ginger, martinez might as well fight the ginger instead. another loss isn't good for cotto's numbers. GBP wants the ginger to be a ppv star, but he can't be a ppv star without fighting other ppv stars. that's why they need cotto so bad.

He won't get peanuts, but he shouldn't break double digits

he doesn't bring a ton of money, yet cotto is going from a two million dollar payday to an alleged 15 million guarantee?

            right.

Dude Martinez got 1.4 M for the Chavez fight while we was the lineal champ. He will take 5 M in a heartbeat, people will buy the PPV because of Cotto fighting for the MW title, Martinez has no big fanbase in the US. Cotto is the draw and he will get the much bigger purse because of that.

maritnez has no fanbase, yet fighting him is getting cotto a 15 million dollar garantee? 15 million is almost twice what cotto was guaranteed against mayweather...

martinez made half of what chavez jr made for their fight. the purses were 1.5 and three million. that's a completely different animal from a 15 million dollar guarantee for one fighter.

cotto is nowhere near the draw you think he is, especially now. i'm not going to believe that miguel cotto was offered twice what he was offered to fight floyd mayweather until i hear it from a reputable source, not an anonymous one from a PR writer.

Yes, I also find this hard to believe. If so it's definitely desperation on the part of hbo and top rank. There's no way cotto warrants a 15mil guarantee for a fight likely to do 400k buys.

I think Martinez would want more like 8, 7 or 7.5 might get it done. Keep in mind New York is a high tax state and in the city especially so high numbers look better than they actually are.

Tough to see them making much money, I suppose it could be a break even sort of deal with enough financial backing from MSG and HBO so Top Rank is not risking much with a possibility of some profit.

MSG and HBO might be willing to take some risk on like that to keep up with the Jones' in the boxing area. Losing a bit of money for those en****** isn't the end of the world as long as they get enough publicity for their brands.
