But what I am trying to say is, even if they went to other sports, surely with a growth in population, that would be counter acted in some form too.

even Emmanuel Stewart said it himself that he has trouble convincing guys to come box over playing other sports, when Lennox Lewis was dominating, American Heavyweight Boxing Fans was losing interest and they was desperate to see an American beat him, Lennox was one of my favorites personal but the declining interest in Heavyweight Boxing started then...it has nothing to do with "BLACK GUY NOT DOMINATING"

Steve USS Cunningham been in Germany over the last few years dominating the Cruiserweight Division...most people in America don't even know who Steve Cunningham is, if it was just about him being "BLACK" don't you think people would have been hyping up Steve Cunningham? It goes beyond just RACE!

The reason that non-Americans dominate middleweight, as well as the divisions from strawweight to lightweight, is OBVIOUSLY because all the potential boxers are in the NBA and NFL.

There are only about 155,000,000 men in the US.

So because there are 250 or so American men in the NBA or NFL, there are simply NO American men left to become boxers nowadays. That was also true in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

BoxRec CAN'T BE telling the truth about the USA still having more active pro HWs than all the European countries combined.

It can be directly attributed to the increase in popularity of the NFL and NBA as well as an increase in the money made. It isn't just boxing that has been losing African-American superstars, it is baseball as well. The kids are no longer playing baseball in the inner city and there is hardly a boxing gym to be found in most of those areas.

There are other factors as well including the fall of the Soviet Union and subsequent influx of Eastern Euros on the international scene, but the evidence of the decline of the African-American heavyweights goes hand in hand with the disappearance of the baseball players. Young black kids just don't have the interest or exposure to sports like boxing and baseball that they once did, while the wealth and allure of the NFL/NBA lifestyle is shown to them on nearly a daily basis.

If you want to cover your ears and close your eyes to the obvious, go ahead I guess.

Blacks aren't that interested in boxing anymore. They use to not get treated that good in NFL, NBA, MLB. Blacks were reluctant to play those sports because of the fans and media. Boxing was a sport that accepted them more, because it was a popular poor man's sport.

Now that racism is mostly over in the media and by fans, it makes it much easier to pick NBA, NFL or MLB over boxing. Especially when the minimum salary you can make in any of the three leagues as a rookie, is 100x more than what they would make as a rookie in boxing. In MLB as a rookie when you get signed in your first year, your minimum salary is $400k no questions asked. How are you gonna get $400k in your first few years in boxing? The minimum NBA salary for a rookie is just under $500k. NFL minimum salary for a rookie is just under $400k. Now after reading these numbers, why the FUCK, would you want to be a boxer? Why, why, why!!!!???? what logic is therein that?

Chances are in boxing, as a HW nowadays, your highest payday is just under $1million. Why would a tall, athletic, American that can play in the NFL, be a god damn boxer? Lol.

If you're a great athlete nowadays, with height and size, it makes no sense to become a boxer. The boxing industry is still a poor man's sport. Look at all the stories of successful boxers who were homeless or very poor before making it to boxing. Either that or they were just raised in a boxing family and know nothing else but boxing.

There are 53 man rosters for each NFL team, plus practice squads, plus smaller leagues. Add in college football, add in high school football, add in Pop Warner football. I wonder how many of those kids could even find a boxing gym in their area if they wanted?

15 guys on each NBA team, plus the D-league, plus college, plus high school, plus the playgrounds. All the guys that never made it anywhere and still live in their old neighborhoods. I wonder how many of them could find a gym in their area.

Total math fail on your part there.

                      thats not true.

What is true is that people see Ali today, saw Frazier before he passed, and see Mike Tyson, Bowe, and Holyfield and are scared off. George Foreman is obvs the exception, but most kids these days know George Foreman as the grill guy.

comparing baseball to boxing is incorrect. MLB has systemically removed the game from inner cities over the last 30 years. With boxing, gyms still exist but people would rather play other sports and not get hit on the head and face.
