just a few days ago, 50 announced the launch of his new business venture, SMS promotions, which was recently granted a license by the nevada state athletic commission and the new york state athletic commission. SMS promote former WBA and IBF featherweight champion yuri gamboa, super middleweight contender andre dirrell, australian IBF featherweight champion billy dib and featherweight contender celestino caballero.
50 Cent is officially staging his first promotional venture under his newly-licensed promotional company in collaboration with bob arum's TR. SMS' first promotional fight will be between 30-year-old unbeaten cuban fighter yuriorkis gamboa (21-0, 16 knockouts) and 24-year old michael farenas (34-3-4, 26 KOs).
farenas is a southpaw who can punch. in his last fight, farenas fought the number 1 ranked takashi uchiyama for the WBA super featherweight title which ended in a technical draw in the third round following a clash of heads. the match was pretty much even.
some think farenas is just a warm for gamboa to remove some ring rust but i think farenas-gamboa would be an entertaining fight since both fighters have an aggressive style and farenas does have a chance of defeating gamboa, considering the time gamboa remained inactive. i think gamboa wins this though by UD.
