Before I sit down at any blackjack table, I look at the table rules and enter it into a basic strategy engine that will spit out the perfect way to play. Just google "Basic Strategy engine blackjack". Basic Strategy alone will decrease the house edge all the way down to less than 1%.
If you want to totally eliminate the house edge and actually make it favorable on your end, you gotta count cards. And even then, your advantage is very little. Even more problematic is your window of advantage is relatively small. That's why you see card counters betting $5 for a while, then increase their bets to something totally out of character like $200 a hand when the deck is loaded with tens and aces.
If anyone is serious about this, just google how to count cards. I promise you anyone with a 5th grade understanding of math can learn how to do this in a few hours or less. It's not that hard, nor as glamorous as people make it out to be.
I wasn't saying that basic strategy is a substitute for counting. At least, that's not what I was intending to say. What I meant was, play basic strategy, if you can't count cards. Nothing more, nothing less.
Obviously, basic strategy is still a big part of getting your edge while counting cards. Of course, if you want that edge to grow even more, you will need to dismiss basic strategy in certain situations depending upon the count (the illustrious 18).
I'm pretty aware of counting. I use hi-lo some, but for the most part, I use the K-O system. Mainly because it eliminates the need to convert to a true count.

If we're talking advantage playing, beat the game over the long haul, there is no "system" that is going to beat roulette.
If we're talking short term, take a shot at a payday, gambling, then just try whatever. Anything can be lucky at any time.

Originally posted by Miburo View PostYou're right, there is no system that is plus long term. Read what I said. It's better than nothing, as in it's still more effective than other minus strategies because it's only very slightly minus. In fact, it tends to leave you with small gains more often than not.

It's like saying "losing all of your money with the Martingale system, is better than losing all of your money without the Martingale system".
Yeah, makes perfect sense.
