  • Could somebody defend Mike Tyson as an ATG for me?

Ignore the fact that he's Mike Tyson. We know he was a sensation when he hit the scene. Just looking at his resume, how in the hell can you consider him one of the top 10 heavyweights? Other than the youngest champion bit (impressive but nobody claims Benitez to be the GOAT and his win over Cervantes > Tyson's win over Berbick by orders of magnitude), what exactly is his claim to fame?

He was a sensation because of his style and his kayotic personal life. he was an exciting fighter at his peak.

I know this. I understand why he's so famous. But please defend him as a historically GREAT fighter to me.

They cannot the 80s were pretty weak and his best win was a shell of Larry Holmes.

unifying the hw crown for the first time.

            having a ludicrus ko ratio.

add to that beating larry and spinks for the linal and starching spinks in a few seconds.

you'd have to have been there to understand.

It's kinda like how we have the K Bros. The competition might not be the most exciting but the skills they showed and the dominance they had/have is undeniable. It's just the way it is. Breaking passing records in the NFL is easier today than it was 10 years ago and we're celebrating guys for it, that doesn't mean it's not a great accomplishment or that anyone can do it.

Tyson didn't really dominate the division, though. Right as he was in position to do it, he went to jail and lost to Buster Douglas. One win over a luminary heavyweight would have been enough. But he doesn't have one. The Klistchkos have actually dominated.

                  thats silly.

douglas was a club fighter. why did the champ fight a club fighter?

'cause he had cleaned out the division.
