Cotto and team are now open to fighting this fall on HBO after a June 6 tuneup.
Some have doubted Cotto's willingness to defend his middleweight title against the hard hitting Golovkin (32-0, 29 ko), but sources say Cotto is now open to the matchup. Sources also credit the recent visit by Golovkin to Wild Card gym in helping the matchup get made. Apparently during a conversation with WBO champion and international recording superstar Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 ko), the National Fist of the Philippines and professional basketball player, Golovkin mentioned his disappointment at Cotto's unwillingness to fight him. Buboy Fernandez, long time coach and friend of Pacquiao, overheard the conversation and knew the reason. While ringside during the Nov. 14, 2009 matchup of Pacquiao-Cotto, Buboy found Cotto's testicles, which Cotto lost halfway in that bout, and took it home. The good samaritan has since had them delivered to Cotto's team in Puerto Rico.
