This is too soon for Russell. I really like Gamboa but even right now Gamboa does nothing close to destroying Russell. Russell is way to polished and well rounded to be destroyed but I don't think Russell has the ring experience right now to pull off the win.

I don't get the Russell/Ponce De Leon comparison. Ponce gave Gamboa "fits" because he is an experienced, tall, rangy southpaw, and Gamboa still won pretty much every round. Russell fits none of those characteristics.

The only thing Russell can match Yuri in is speed..... Everything else leans in Yuris favor.... So would the fight if it were to happen

If this fight were to happen today, Gamboa wins. A couple of years from now? Who knows? Russell has serious talent, but it's easy for someone as talented as Gary to look special against inferior opposition.

I disagree about Ponce giving Yuri "fits". Gamboa didn't win in spectacular fashion, but he dominated in a virtual shut-out performance. I'm certain that "El Ciclon" would take a different approach versus Russell. Ponce has proven KO power, while Gary is much faster and technically sharper.
