  • Would have Óscar de la Hoya had better performance without alcohol?

It is well known his alcohol problems throughout his whole boxing career.

Do you think that alcohol had a major role in his defeats?

He didn't get too much tired right?

I mean, how does alcohol affect cardio endurance in a fight.

    Thanks.

Well, he wasn't drunk during his fights...
Drinking while you're training is like any other type of neglect in training. You don't recuperate as well so your strength, cardio, etc never reach their pinnacle like they should in a good training camp.

The guy was incredibly talented. I can't speculate whether his failures had to with neglect or not but he did far better than most and is definitely a legend.

When your young you get away with it as long as you maintain the hard training schedule.

DeLa Hoya had many things that slowed his career, the guy corner was awful, because it was changed for every fight, he was never considered a gym rat and was distracted a lot by the things outside the ring, but man, the talent was there for sure.
