These Ronaldo/Messi/whoever are good but not as good as the past legends of the game. Zidane/Romario/Cruyff/Puskas/Beckenbeaur/Platini/Best were all so much better at their time and they didn't fail at the international stage when it mattered either.
exactly! if that was Cristina in the run R9 pulled off against compostela there would have been at least 10 instances where e would have taken a dive.
CR7 has good free kicks and headers ill give him that but the way he approaches the game on the field prevents him from being great.

oh man would i would give to watch ronaldo and romario together again for brazil. Ro-Ro attack ftw!

Young Ronaldo...was truly something else. Consider that in '98, when Zidane was mid-20s, and Ronaldo was about 20/21, there was no doubt over who the best player in the world was.

Even when the injuries wrecked him, he was still the best finisher in the world.

I'm glad he's called it a day, he didn't deserve people making fun of him.

Best player I have ever seen.

People complain a lot about his weight issues. The fact is he had a condition whereby he couldn't stop his metabolism from spiraling out of control and the only medication he could take for it was banned from use in the sport. Imagine how good he could've been without this and the rest of the injury problems...Probably would've gone down as the best player of all time.

The greatest goalscorer in World Cup history was passed off as 'Fat Ronaldo' for too many in recent years - the adjective needed to distinguish the Brazil legend from some Portuguese of the same name.
To those captured by his majesty, he will always be the real Ronaldo. Let the brilliantly talented Cristiano have his CR7, or whatever other trademark he fancies.

It only recently got banned i think the people who came up with that deserved to be shot.. surely Ronaldo deserves better and should be allowed to take it

Only caught the tail-end of his career but even then you could see the extraordinary talent he oozed everytime he was on the pitch.

To win 3 player of the year awards with the career ending injuries he has had, and moreover with competition like Zidane around, really does sum him up as an incredible player.

Great player, its a shame about his knee problems and that strange thing that happend at the final of world cup 98. remember when he was out for 2 years and then he scored something like 10 goals in his first 11 games back for Inter just before winning the world cup.
