Football players yes, Basketball players no. Basketball players have shown time and time again that they throw punches like girls.

A pure NFL player with no martial arts experience would have trouble to get into a boxing career. He would have better results in MMA where pure strentgh can help you to pin your opponent and beat him up on the ground.
That's not the point. The point is American kids don't see boxing as a way out of the hood, they see football and basketball as the way. Therefore they don't grow up with it and don't pursue it.

That is about as real as it gets Makavelli. We bust balls around here, but that's the truth right there. Could you imagine if boxing got the exposure the NFL does? There would be no questions asked, all other countries would bow down the US. It would not even be fair.

This is why I find the theory that great athletes in other sports could have made it to the top in boxing flawed... If a person choses Football or Basketball over a boxing career because its an 'easier' way to get an education, go pro, and get cash, then imo they simply don't have to mentality/heart to become a champion boxer. As James Toney said; "You don't play boxing. You play basketball, you play football."

Yeah but Money May gotta get paid and he ain't finna to have his fight shown on ABC who will pay him a couple mil tops. In the meantime, you don't need cable to watch the freakin SUPER BOWL. Boxing has no one to blame but itself.

Good point I guess, it takes a special type person to be a boxer. But that's a disrespect to basketball and football players. I have a hard time believing Jim Brown or Ray Lewis doesn't have the mentality or heart to box. They simply liked football better and chose to pursue that because they could make money off it.
