FLOYD MAYWEATHER TO BE “SHUNNED” BY HISTORY

October 11th, 2010 By Pedro Fernandez

San Francisco, CA- On many occasions you will find a story about the boxing greats of different eras being compared to one another. The late, great, Jacob Finkelstein, AKA the Godfather of Boxing Writers, Jack Fiske, he was of the opinion that you can’t really do an objective piece on say Rocky Marciano-Muhammad Ali. On this subject, I disagree with the winner of the “James J. Walker Award for Long & Meritorious Service to Boxing,” a man who penned twice weekly columns in the San Francisco Chronicle from 1953 to 1993.

    EXPERIENCE AND ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

Having been “schooled” (and I know that’s a word Mike Dog’n Katz hates) in boxing as a fighter on how to analyze a boxer, what they do and don’t do well, thus I’m of the opinion that you can compare generations, at least recent ones, with the boxers of today. Which brings me to the subject of both Floyd Mayweather and his deserved ranking in history based on what he’s done to this point.

“MONEY’S” FANS HAVE LITTLE TO BRAG ABOUT!

Although Floyd is fighting as a welterweight (147 lbs) and has fought officially in the jr. middleweight (154 lb. limit) weight class against Oscar De La Hoya, he is a small welterweight with minimal punching power, this despite his 25 KO’s in 41 wins. As a boxer, he has evolved into a style that combines a little of Willie Pep, Pernell Whitaker, and uncle Roger Mayweather.

FLOYD WILL BE SHUNNED BY HISTORIANS?

Hector Martinez, he once being Roberto Duran’s co-manager, put it all on the table when it comes to Floyd Jr. when he went beyond calling Mayweather, reluctant. “He’s pussed out. If Manny is willing to take the random tests, why aren’t they fighting? It’s because Mayweather has doubts. Doubts that he could beat Manny, doubts about himself,” which may have been brought about by the elderly “Sugar Shane” Mosley nearly dropping him last May.

ONCE BEATEN AMATEUR MARTINEZ ON “THE BEST”

“When you are the best, there are times you need to say it. But more importantly, you’ve got to show it. Beating Oscar De La Hoya was no big deal, fighting little (Juan Manuel) Marquez, and then a 39-year old Shane Mosley, who you knew was steroid free because he took the random tests. Look, I can blame Manny for the fight in March not happening because he didn’t want to do the tests, but he has agreed and that should have been enough to get Floyd’s signature on a contract.”

DURAN, LEONARD, HEARNS, FLOYD NOT IN SAME LEAGUE

Great fighters, they use their prime to achieve super stardom. Floyd, he wasted his away. He ducked Miguel Cotto they say, was offered $8 million to fight (Antonio) Margarito. I heard him say that he’s the best of all time. Floyd can’t even prove he’s the best right now! He’s not big enough to deal with the 80’s era, Roberto Duran would bust him up, Tommy Hearns would flatten him, and Ray Leonard would toy with Floyd.

SIX YEARS OF LITTLE BUT TALK FROM FLOYD

Mayweather hasn’t stopped a foe in almost three years and the chin-first (nose second!) Ricky Hatton in December 2007. I am going to run down the list of Floyd’s foes for the last, we’ll say six years. DeMarcus Corley (UD 12), Henry Brusseles (UD 12) Arturo Gatti (TKO 6), Carlos Baldomir (UD 12), Zab Judah (UD 12), Juan Manuel Marquez (UD 12) and Mosley (UD 12). Mosley and Marquez stand out name wise, but one was old, and the other was old and small.

NOT A RESUME HISTORY CAN EMBRACE

Domestic Violence issues, threats, pending criminal charges, Floyd Mayweather will never be to boxing what Willie Mays was to baseball. Mays, having met him twice, and tried two other times for autographs which he refused, he was the “P4P” king of baseball. Even with his attitude, which seems to be mellowing of late, Mays set an example by staying out of the Police blotters, late night bars, and the like.

RESUME IS ALL WE HAVE TO GO BY

Floyd has besmirched the game in which he has been a part since failing to win the Gold in the 1996 Olympics. His claim to fame in the last six or seven years is beating Ricky Hatton. Beating Ricky Hatton should not mean a “free ride” to the the Hall of Fame. Problems aside, Floyd is a good fighter fighting in a weak era. His lack of stones, once a question, now seems to be a certainty as Floyd appears to be in a mode of self destruction. To some it is sad, others rejoice. The bottom line is Floyd Mayweather is full of ****!

not only will floyd be shunned by history, he will be shunned as a human being

this is a guy who isnt a father to his children, how can a man beat up the baby mama in front of his children? and he lives in a seperate mansion forcing her to take care of all his kids.....thats a true shame. floyd really does care about money more than his kids...the real victim in all of this floyd beating and stealing from his baby mama? their children.
