Let me address these points.

First off, even though Asians and other groups have suffered slavery and racism, you need to look at why they are excelling. Asians, Latinos, Middle Easterners excel more because of the family structure that's still intact. That is the MAIN reason blacks have fallen behind in this country because the family isn't there anymore. This covers your point about ghettos in other countries and why other groups excel.

Second point. Even though the identity in our society of blacks has changed a lot in the last 50 years or so, blacks are still seen by most as not the same as whites or other races. One of the most prevalent places is how blacks with money and education respond within their own communities.

I had this discussion with my very good friend who happens to be black. He commented to me how these NBA and NFL players, once they get rich always have a white or hispanic girl on their arms. How they abandon the black girl, for the pretty white or hispanic girl. He said (not me) that is a form of self hate. That because of generations of being seen as "black is ugly" they want what they have always seen as beautiful. That's something to at least think of...

Lastly, to answer your question, I think parenting, economy, and lack of education has way more of an impact to slavery. The point I made though is that they are not exclusive to each other. I think since slavery, that has had an affect on all of those things you mentioned. So in reality, they are connected. The direct effect of slavery may not be understood by todays generation but the lack of education, separation of family, poverty and the crime that results of it is why blacks do so poorly.

There has to be a culture change from the ground up.
