  • Fights that tarnished the legacy of otherwise great fighters.

Was thinking about this the other day.

Michael Spinks had a lot of great wins and then he met Tyson and people forgot about how good he was.

Alexis Arguello was immensely talented and tough but his career was tarnished by Aaron Pryor.

Michael Nunn was a fantastic fighter but caught by James Toney.

What other examples can you think of that tarnished otherwise great careers and influenced people's opinions of a fighter.

Oops should've went into the history section.

      M.Spinks stands out, of course!

Shame, really! Hein Ten Hoff the German HVY.-wt. contender who lost 10r. dec. vs DWilder-&-wilder!Ha ha! [correction: JJW] was DE- SROYED in r.1 VS Ingemar HIS LAST!
The manner of the loss is the REALLY painful part!

Alexis Arguello's career was tarnished by Aaron Pryor? That's news to me. I've haven't heard anyone crap on his career just because of the Pryor losses. Must be an NSB thing

Jones against tarver 2 and the Johnson fight. He sent from being talked about as one of the truly greats to becoming an afterthought. It didn't help that his already limited star appeal was destroyed.

Titos loss to hopkins just made everyone forget just what a monster he was. He went from being regarded as one of the very best fighters in modern times to being entirely forgotten behind Oscar, Mosley, may, pac etc.

Oscar still has a lot of good will and is one of the few American fighters over the last 15 years or so who is actually known to a relatively wide spread level in the UK.

But yeah, Tito is almost invisible and Mosley's career has dragged on to such an extent it seems like a joke now.
