  • [PLEASE HELP] The Adrenaline debate

I have a theory. That people with larger adrenaline glands are better athletes.

All people are different. Some people sweat more than others because of over active sweat glands. Some people have huge Thyroid glands which effect there body in different ways.

Can't this be the same with adrenaline glands? For example, some boxers get dropped hard and are able to get off the floor and come back fighting harder than before they were floored. Maybe bigger adrenaline glands equals better recovery for them. I guess this could work in others sports such as sprinting also.

Its just a theory of mine. I don't know if there is medical evidence about this.

    Opinions please

I heard (though i cant back this up) that most specialist military units go through loads of training to try and suppress their natural adrenaline fueled reactions to danger.

It tends to make you panic and go wild whereas most need to stay calm (in sport aswell).

So using the boxing analogy if you get knocked down it is an advantage to not get filled with adrenaline otherwise you end up like Khan trying to fight back wildly, whereas someone like Marquez stays calm while fighting back...

Open to being proved wrong by someone with more knowledge though!

I'm glad you brought up the Khan example. He got hit with a left hook that didn't switch out his lights, therefore maybe allowing the adrenaline to kick in. After he got up off the floor he also took some huge shots and didn't even wobble with a few of them. Maybe because he could see them coming, maybe seeing them coming is what gets the adrenaline flowing.

I was hit by a car once, I saw it out the corner of my eye and had a huge adrenaline rush before the car hit me. I came down hard on my head but was up on my feet almost instantly. I believe if I didn't see it coming I would have been out cold.

        It is strange adrenaline.

I crashed my bike a few years ago and literally jumped straight back up and walked away...

I ended up in hospital for a week with four broken ribs and a fracture wrist.

Adrenaline can make your body do crazy unnatural things, but for an athlete id say the more in control you are the better. But i agree that physically more adrenaline will improve you as an athlete

              Just messing, mate

I think equilibrium is a major factor. Especially when it comes to boxers. Adrenaline is one thing but once your equilibrium is knocked off its norm, coming back would be near impossible until it returns to its normal state.

In the case of Khan, he has more of an equilibrium issue than anything else. But, your theory does make sense. It's not complete nonsense like some of Chavinder's threads

So you are saying Khan has a glass equilibrium?

I'm starting to feel bad for him. Maybe he should fight this guy next

                  Yeah, maybe

Why are odd shots more detrimental than others when the connect percentage stays high? For example, Paul Williams, he was taking shots before he actually was taken out by Martinez, so in theory, his adrenaline would have been kicked in to full power mode but he still got caught enough to get put to sleep.

Maybe he has small adrenaline glands. Maybe its took longer to get to certain parts of his body because he was like 6'4
