  • Sonny Liston would dominate if he fought today!

It took a special fighter like Ali to upset him. There has only been one Ali. If Liston fought today he would win the unified title and hold it for ten years.

No if he fought today he'd be branded a hypejob which is exactly what he was. Total hypejob who beat absolutely nobody of any note what so ever apart from a glass jawed Patterson & went tooth and nail even losing to journeyman.

Most overrated HW in boxing history.

Yeah if it wasn't for Ali, Liston would have had a better legacy. But Ali is Ali, he's that star up in the sky, that mountain peak up high. Hey, he made it. He's the world's greatest.

What makes you believe this? He was slow and had little skill. He would not be champion of any era, he isn't even a top 10 ATG heavyweight.

He beat everyone they put in front of him and fought the best available at that time. Just like the current champ who doesn't have the skills that Liston had.
he lost to Ali just as the current champ would no shame in that.
instead of reading records why not try to evaluate skills?
Did he have a good jab? Excellent jab!
How was his overall defense? Solid in that his heads were high and he slipped shots well!
Did he have adequate power for a heavyweight? Yes he did he had solid technique and brought power with both hands!
Sonny was a well schooled fighter as a young man, he was taught to press using short steps and his jab and could punch in combination too.

Very good fighter/boxer for his era and had excellent reach for his height.
he could fight in any era and represent himself well!!

There is not a single fighter today as slow as Liston and not a single top 20 fighter whom he would be able to beat.

              Just look at him.

I think Liston would beat everyone but wlad and that would be 50/50

Fury, wilder, chisora, stiverne, pulev, would all get beat by Liston

Someone might upset him, but in all likelihood Liston beats everyone but wlad

Well you can think that but I can't see Liston surviving long against Lucas Browne!

Link me to any fight of Liston's which shows him coordinated, fast and strong enough to survive a few rounds with Browne if you can!

The first time Liston ever faced what today we might regard as a decent opponent... He lost!
