  • Why was Barrera able to beat Naseem Hamed so easily?

What was it about Barrera that gave Hamed so much trouble in their fight?

I'm talking mainly from a STYLE point of view though, not some "Barrera's family just died and his wife is in the ER from a mysterious illness that will only be cured by a decisive victory in his next big fight, which made him an unstoppable force" type of reasoning

Motivation. Hamed I think was uninterested at that point and Barrera had heart and determination.

        Thanks lol

Hamed was unmotivated and didn't like training hard while Barrera had a lot of drive. They're preparation imo was the difference.

Hamed was vastly overrated. Marketing wise, I can see pushing him. He carried the Prince name around, was very short, had an awkward, unusual style that produced knockouts and the leopard trunks helped in that area. As far as boxing fundamentals, he was garbage.

By this time, Barrera had already recovered from the Jones setbacks and had the first fight with Morales. He'd gone from a stalking banger to a boxer-puncher. His fundamentals were very strong at this point. He put Naz in his place, which is what Morales or Marquez would have done. Marquez was the WBO number one contender for two damn years and no fight. I wonder why? I'm sure his handlers knew Marquez would take him. With Barrera, it was good money either way.

All the pot shotting crap only gets a fighter so far. It isn't good for longevity.

The reason the fight was that one sided was mostly down to motivation. People don't want to accept it because barer ra is this humble dude while Hamed was a British loudmouth.

But Hamed had/has big ego issues and by that point of his career he was not taking the sport seriously at all and was more interested in being a celebrity and being famous.

Theres plenty of steward interviews from back then where he talks about Hamed skipping training, doing it half hearted when he did, and all these hangers on telling him he was the man when he was training sloppy and needed to buckle down. Steward told hamed after the fight that if he wasn't going to take the sport seriously he wouldn't train him anymore.

Hamed went into the ring that night with his over inflated ego telling him all he needs to do is show up and he would win.

Barrera on the other hand a humble guy knew he was in a real fight, he developed a game plan to throw Hamed off by boxing instead of his usual more brawling style. He trained seriously, was dedicated and was mentally sharp .

This was the main difference in the fight, Hamed had superior physical gifts but he squandered them while barerra maxed what he had.

I don't know why mentally weak Hamed haters can't accept this, they think it's some sort of insult to say that Barrera won because he was more mentally disciplined and had a better work ethic. They prefer to claim Hamed was just a bum. Not the case.

                skills, Thats the bottom line.

if they both ran and trained the exact same amount of time barrera will still beat nas, all these dumb asses saying, preparation, lack of motivation DKSAB, if hamed was prepared and motivated he still will be limited skill wise and barrera beat him with skills and skills alone.

Hamad was a massively flawed fighter technically.

He basically gave up proper technique for a more entertaining style.

He got away with it because he was an amazing natural talent.

Once he faced a true great and had lost a bit of those reflexes and speed through age and lack of proper training, lifestyle etc he was shown up.

His hands where wrecked too which meant his power which was the big equaliser against a superior technical fighter wasn't able to be fully utilised.

He made a huge among of cash for a 5"3 guy which is really the main point of a boxing career.

                    This is weak.

Barrera would have beaten Hamed either way you look at it. All this crap about motivation is a passive aggressive way of saying Hamed was the superior fighter. Such a load. Barrera had way more skills and beat him easily then and would have beaten easily before Hamed so called didn't take the sport seriously anymore. Stop making excuses for guys when they get schooled.
