Al Bernstein clarifies his views on Abner Mares

Very well said Al. By far my favorite commentator in the game. Plus he reppin the Chi!!!
To paraphrase Mr. Bernstein: The kid's natural instinct is to be a cheap shot artist, so his opponents natural reaction would be to use rough tactics as well, in order to nullify his cheapness. So, the ref should take this into account and just ignore both parties cheapness, unless Mares, blatantly becomes cheap.

Al is one of the best in the business. Even in the first fight with Agbeko he wasn't really that critical of Mares. They kept talking about how bad of a job Russell Mora was doing. Mares is a great body puncher but throws a lot of low and borderline punches and he should be criticized for throwing low. There was no excuse for the low blow he landed on Agbeko in 12th round of the first fight. He head wasn't being pushed down in that exchange or many of the other exchanges in that fight.
Mares fought a good fight and he deserves credit for the win. Even though some of the officiating has favored him in fights he clearly won, these bad call by the refs take a little away for the win.

He has seen the same thing from Mares in 3 of his last 4 fights. Any of us in his place would have reacted worse. The automatic referee advantage Mares has had against Darchinyan, Agbeko, and now Moreno is disgusting.
