    Violence begets violence in culture. Stonings, floggings, torture, executions... if the powers that be demonstrate that life is cheap then the lesson learned is that life is cheap.
    You should have stopped there, THREAD OVER.

      No, I'm talking about justice in its truest sense, the scales of justice. On one side of the scale you have a woman who is blind and deformed for the rest of her life. On the scales of justice, what counterbalances that on the other side of the scale?

      What's just about you being killed, and the person who killed you not?

        No, the west doesnt commit cruel and unusual punishment (except the death penalty). Cruel punishment and death contain no positives whatsoever.

          Sorry AK but you just don't get it. You are confusing REVENGE with justice. They are not the same. Justice would be getting something in return justly, giving back that stolen money, fixing the wrecked car, replacing something lost.

          That is justice. How is disfiguring someone's face, because he disfigured the face of someone else justice? It's revenge, it happens because it makes people feel better because they received something that they did but it's not justice.

          It's a way of being as savage as the criminal is. We as a society need to separate ourselves from what criminals do, if not we are the same as them. Again, doing this type of stuff has NEVER shown to be a deterrent, ever.

          Murder is the worst thing you can do to someone because you take the most important thing they have that can never be replaced, their life.

            Actually, that did nothing but speak to the obvious. If anything, its a comment that argues against yours. I.e its an appropriate punishment for the region.

              Nah, you....

              Justice;
              the process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals.

              My argument for it being a fair punishment is a lot stronger than your argument of it being an unfair punishment...

                Easy to sit here and be pragmatic and dispassionate about it.

                What if some asshole did this to your daughter?

                Think you would be in the same mind frame?

                Doubt it.

                  So a person kills a person. Now that person has killed and must also be killed, and the cycle goes on."Eye for an eye" is not only barbaric, but it is irrational. When an act is committed, people should not only consider the motive, but also the background of the person who committed the offense. Fighting violence with violence is never the answer and can never perfectly work.

                      Thats torture. The death penalty would have been better. I know what he did was abhorent but just kill the man. Spend the money that would went to him through medical expenses lrison room and board etc. His punishment feels good but isnt good.
