I can somewhat understand why they would strip Cotto, if what we are hearing is accurate, but...what claim would Canelo have at the WBC Middle weight belt? He's fighting Cotto who is no longer champ. By WBC rules shouldn't stripping Cotto elevate the interim champ (GGG) instead? Not sure how Canelo gets an automatic shot at the title considering circumstances...oh wait, he paid his dues, right...

Cotto-Canelo was sanctioned as a WBC title fight, so Cotto not paying his fee has nothing to do with Canelo's end. Technically Cotto has not been stripped, because there is still a pending sanctioned bout. The WBC is following the same protocol they would if a champ misses weight. He isnt technically stripped, but only the opponent can win the title.
