The closest the fight came to happening was back in 2013 or 2014 before Stevenson was a Haymon fighter. Stevenson's management had a deal on the table, both sides thought the fight was agreed, they took their tuneups beforehand, and then Stevenson went to Haymon, who proceeded to blow the deal up and bring Adonis to Showtime.

So it was Stevenson who ducked the first time, and Kovalev who ducked the second time.
