If we go by his own words, it was Margarito. He's interviewed here in a local TV and he said that he was really hurt on that fight and was about to quit.

He was interviewed again before the Mosley fight and he still mentioned the name Margarito.

Those who said he showed mercy on Margarito is BS IMO. I think he wanted the fight to stop because of himself seeing a danger of another hard shot, not because of pity to Margo.

Age, Wealth, Wear & Tear were already making him decline as a fighter, being KTFO by Marquez just put the final nail in the coffin for Manny has an elite fighter.

Also, a lot of the fights where he did stop guys or put a beating on them were against guys who were tailor made to be hit. He has been less effective against certain styles for as long as anybody can remember.

Marquez killed the killer instinct. Even though before the ko age was slowing him down, he was still fearless and trying to kill guys.

After the Marquez KO he's fought differently, more cautious, backing up from guys he would have otherwise beat the sht out of for thinking they could come to him e.g Bradley II.
