Diaz was upset by Campbell, which in retrospect doesn't seem like a big deal but was huge back then. Andy Lee was stopped. ESPN aired a string of consecutive HUGE upsets.
Can Manny beat Oscar?
Can Roy beat Joe?
OMG OMG, I'm still ****ing amped up. What a great year for this great sport man.

Every year, people say "this is the year of the upset".
2001 was the Year of the Upset.
Big upsets in big fights.
Rahman-Lewis 1: Rahman was a 20-1 underdog, and the significance can't really get bigger than the Heavyweight Championship of the World.
Ruiz-Holyfield 2: Ruiz was a 2-1 underdog for the WBA Heavyweight belt.
Barrera-Hamed: Barrera was a 3-1 underdog to be the uncrowned king at featherweight.
Tszyu-Judah: Tszyu was a 3-1 underdog. For the undisputed junior welterweight title.
Hopkins-Trinidad: Hopkins was a 3-1 underdog, and 15 out of 20 insiders polled in The Ring picked Tito to win. This was the biggest fight of the year, PPV wise, and for the undisputed middleweight title.
