We talkin about Charles Martin, right? If he aint ready for Charles Martin right now maybe he aint as good as advertised. The IBF rankings suck. He should be able to beat any of the top 5 IBF guys. They telling him to avoid CHARLES MARTIN ffs!

I think the point mcguigan was making was that he should avoid the Martin fight not because of the danger martin himself presents but the calibre of opposition that would come calling should he beat him.

dont think he meant being ready for martin he means after beating him joshua would then have to fight legit experienced HW fighters defending his title putting him in fights he might not be ready for

I agree there is no rush another year of experience and rounds then joshua should step up to title level

They really do want to molly coddle poor old Anthony Joshua!
Look at the size of Joshua he is a physically gifted athlete in his prime If not now then when?
AJ is absolutely ready for Martin and I know for a fact he'd flatten him in a couple of rounds If that.

it's not about martin though, it's about who he will have to face as champ.

martin imo is not a test for joshua and he would gain nothing from the fight (apart from a belt) since martin himself is fairly green and it would put him in a position he would handle much better with experience why become champ now for say 6 months and lose the belt with a stupid mistake when he could rule for say 6 years as a defined fighter

grab the belt, defend for 10 years against bums like calzaghe, fight a couple good fighters the last 2 years, retire. all time great. book it

Hearn told McGuigan to say this. This is nothing but promotion for the fight. When the fight gets made in a couple of days... Eddie Hearn will say "This is a massive test for Anthony, everyone from myself to the legends like Barry McGuigan are telling him to not take the fight just yet, but we know Anthony he is a warrior, and he believes that he can beat Martin in clinical fashion and make a statement to the boxing world"

Its so obvious, just at a time when Frampton&McGuigan were going to sign a carriage deal with Hearn, to feature on his cards!!!
