Mikey priced himself out making irrealistic demands. According to Steve Kim he was asking more than $1.5 million.

HBO badly wanted that fight, Arum had no problem with it, Gamboa agreed to a reasonable amount of money, and it was way less that what Mikey was supposed to get.

Team Garcia wanted no part of Gamboa. Mikey called Gamboa out twice and when Gamboa (and HBO) called his bluff he suddenly got cold feet. He even lied in interviews, saying that Gamboa was the one asking for too much money.

Mikey basically ducked Gamboa.

Gary Russell didn't know who Mikey was 3 years ago, and Mikey was the 4th ranked fighter at 126, and GRJ wasn't even ranked.

Every trainer doesn't know everything about every fighter, just cause we know who they are, that doesn't mean that he will, Robert probably can't even tell you who the other 2 champs at 130 are.

Mikey is only top fighter at 130 he has.

Every trainer doesn't know everything about every fighter, just cause we know who they are, that doesn't mean that he will, Robert probably can't even tell you who the other 2 champs at 130 are.

Mikey is only top fighter at 130.

Robert knows who Gamboa is. We all know who Gamboa is. I'll bet Yuri has far more name-recognition than Uchiyama, even among the hardcore fans. Whether you think Uchiyama is a better fighter isn't the issue here. The issue is, which match-up would attract more interest. The obvious answer is, the one where people actually know the fighters!
