lost to Pirog and Williams in his last two fights.

Golovkin should be fighting better opponents and they are available. Brian Vera and Marcos Antonio Rubio have both called him out looking for a fight. the sad thing is both are better than anybody GGG has faced as a pro.

for a guy being hyped as the most avoided man in boxing fighting Ishida isn't going to cut it. honestly where is the risk in fighting Ishida?

if he does KO Ishida within 4 rounds he'll look bad because they hype around him has become larger than the person. Rosado had a good showing and if it wasn't for the cut that fight would have become interesting in the later rounds. HBO tried to cover by saying he was bedridden two days before fight (although that was the day of the final presser and he looked fine, watch the video)

all I'm wondering is what will the excuse be if Ishida goes the distance? will they say GGG got the clap from a hooker in the casino?
Ishida has never been KOd and has a durable chin so not sure how GGG looks bad if he doesn't KO him in 4.

Also, keep in mind this is a stay busy fight in Monte Carlo that will not be aired in the states. So would Rubio or Vera fight him for little money and no TV exposure? Something to consider. This card is pretty much all European fighters and Golovkin is just another name added to help the event being successful.

the hype is becoming bigger than GGG. you can't bill a guy as being the most avoided and fight lesser opponents. call it a keep busy fight or whatever but ALL of Golovkin fights have been keep busy fights. I don't mind the fight it just doesn't keep with the hype.

Sigh. I guess you missed the point entirely.

Golovkin has an HBO date a month or two later and will be against a bigger name. Ideally Geale but I think he's going to fight Sam Soliman.

          Crap fight.

Ishida is coming off of two losses in a row and I don't think he is even ranked by the WBA at 160 lbs.

I agree, this fight is not the best for GGG he could do much better especially after his performance against Rosado, he needs to step it up.

As for Ishida's rank, the article said he's ranked 15th.

GGG will do to Ishida what:

              Ishida did to Kirkland
              Pacquiao did to Hatton
              Marquez did to Pac

              ...all in one.

no not at all. what I'm saying is this fight doesn't match the narrative being sold. Golovkin isn't saying I'll take a tune up fight, he saying he wants the best but everybody is avoiding him. that's the narrative. Ishida doesn't match what GGG himself is saying, no matter how you want to see it.

I wouldn't be so premature assuming the fight won't be on HBO. I know Rios vs Alvarado is that night but Arum has been very willing to let GGG on his past card, plus another HBO Edwin Rodriguez is fighting in on the Monaco card and DiBella is co promoting it. that has HBO written all over it.

they don't need a broadcast crew in Monaco to televise the fight, they've played tape delays of both Klitschkos and Amir Khan.

it's an HBO date bet on it. Arum and Dibella are cooperating with HBO to build him up IMO. as for the future who knows. personally I think they'll feed Golovkin bums until he fights either Chavez or Martinez next year.

I think I had the WBA's December rankings in mind. Gabriel Rosado was #15 and Ishida wasn't on there.

But looking at the January rankings you are right, Ishida is now #15. He somehow rose on the list even though he lost his last two fights.

wat's wrong by getting stopped by the corner? the rosado fight was great IMO cos sooner or later he'll be ko'd

3G lucked out that he cut Rosado early. I think Rosado could have really cast doubts had he been able to see the punches coming. He showed me plenty even as bad as he looked when the fight was stopped. It looked worse than what it was because of all the blood.
