Bob Fitzsimmons heavyweight to light heavyweight champ
Andre ward himself won gold at light heavyweight then went pro at 160

This guy is the truth, great skills, tough, hungry, and in his prime. He's coming out to shine on Saturday, I expect a classic fight this saturday. Giants just lost but now looking fowards to Saturday night. Cheers to boxing!

Byrd went down to LW, not Cruiserweight. lost to Shaun George I think. btw good examples but the Pacquiao examples are strange since it was only about 2 pounds catchweight. Byrd and Roy went down over 20 or 30 pounds. Ray Leonard also went down at least one weight class to fight Terry Norris. So the Pacquiao fights dont fit in there, but if its true that Cotto wasnt allowed to rehydrate, then you can take it as an example

I just think that 7 pounds was just too much to lose...there should have at least been a catchweight for ward vs dawson..would have been healthier for dawson especially considering he hadn't fought at smw in like 6 years.
Yeah but those fighters did not drop down a weight-class fast like Chad did. They had plenty of time to drop down in weight without it effecting them plus their bodies could handle coming down in weight cause the higher weight class was to big for them anyway.

Its true Bryd went down to Light Heavy. One of the things he noted when he fought Shawn George was the speed difference. He couldn't handle the speed after having campaigned at Heavy. I think the same thing affected Dawson. The speed difference between the top guys at SMW and LH is dramatic. Dawson has good speed, but it didn't compare with Wards at all. He got hit with punches he couldn't see or anticipate, and Ward's foot speed was just too much

THOSE ARE JSUT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
IF YOU MOVE BACK DOWN IN WEIGHT YOU LOSE, PERIOD. THIS FIGHT MIGHT HAVE DESTROYED DAWSON PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY.
