how was he past his prime for the leonard rematch when it was 5 months after the first fight?

every single boxer that ever lived during the 80's destroys floyd right? lol, this is all fantasy, no right or wrong answer.
Just watch a prime Duran in the 80s. Compared to most fighters, he was unreal. Mayweather can make a guy miss, but his offense was never what Duran's was, who could also make a guy miss by an inch- just enough so he can counter, all the while delivering consistently hard punches upstairs and down. He was on another level. No one Mayweather fought comes close to Duran. Mosley would have no chance. Diego Corrales wouldn't make it past 5. Castillo would be out in 7 or less. Maidana might make it the distance but I doubt it. Look at who Duran fought. Leonard and Hearns would easily be too much for Mayweather. Dejesus would take him as well. Palomino would likely beat him. The level of competition was way higher in that era. It's not Mayweather's fault for fighting in a weaker era but it is the way it is.

Eff it, i'll be the one to say it! Duran's resume at lightweight is overrated. He was incredible but his resume not so much.

Depends what weight. At lightweight I'd go with Duran, anything above that I'd side with Floyd.

Duran made a career of beating guys he was supposed to lose to. Mayweather only fought guys he was supposed to beat. No comparison.

At 135, even though he had 70 plus fights, he only fought three or four quality opponents.

At 135 (a weight in which Mayweather still had power), Mayweather would have KO'd Duran or embarrassed him the way he did Diego Corrales. At 147, Mayweather would have beaten Duran the same way he beat Manny Pacquaio -- easily. Roberto Duran (just like Julio Caesar Chavez) was never as good as his hype. Mayweather would have beaten both of those guys without breaking a sweat.

Hearns must have just shaken his head when he watched Floyd's fights with that level of competition, knowing they all would easy prey. Tall long fighters with a great jab, hand speed and power is stylistically bad for Floyd.
                    yeah.

maidana, castillo, old mosley, even dumb pac tagged him.

                    duran can't?

The caliber of opposition is not even close. In years to come, his career is going to be a joke. A great businessman who made the most money for fighting subpar opposition. He did it to himself. If he had took on the best all the way, even in this era, 49-0 would be a pipe dream but I would have more respect for him.
