  • Pacquiao: "If Mayweather Gets Past Ortiz, We Can Fight"

Pacquiao happy with Floyd’s decision to fight Ortiz in Sept.

MANILA, Philippines — Floyd Mayweather is making a ring comeback, something the pound-for-pound king believes is a sign they are destined to face each other in 2012.

“That’s good,” Pacquiao told the Bulletin as soon as his plane landed in General Santos City late Wednesday afternoon from Manila when told about Mayweather’s decision to come out of retirement.

Mayweather is scheduled to face Mexican-American Victor Ortiz for Ortiz’s World Boxing Council welterweight crown on Sept. 17 possibly at Cowbiys Stadium in Dallas, Texas, and Pacquiao thinks the choice of Ortiz as opponent is a no-brainer.

“Ortiz is a southpaw like me so I think Mayweather is preparing (to get used to a lefthander),” said Pacquiao, who is itching to get the chance to bang with the former holder of boxing’s most coveted mythical title.

And while Pacquiao is looking forward to a megabuck matchup with Mayweather, the Filipino star said Ortiz, a 24-year-old knockout artist, is not to be taken lightly.

Told about the possibility that he and Mayweather will finally get to trade power punches, Pacquiao said Ortiz’s style and youth pose dangers.

“If he gets past Ortiz (then we can fight).”

Like Mayweather, Pacquiao is also penciled to see action as he is booked to meet Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico for the third time on Nov. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 34-year-old Mayweather hasn’t fought since posting a lopsided decision over Shane Mosley in May 2010.

While Mayweather has been dormant, Pacquiao has been pretty active through the years, facing just about anybody put in front of him.

Efforts to stage a Pacquiao-Mayweather super fight have failed twice over the issue of random drug testing and purse split.

Now that Mayweather has decided to come out of his shell, it certainly looks like he is looking beyond the Ortiz bout.

Don't forget Roach said Pacquiao wants the winner of Mayweather vs Marquez, then Pacroid said "If Mosley beats Mayweather then we will fight" hinting that if Mayweather wins then it should be against him.

Manny signed to fight a light-weight immediately after his win over Sugar Shot Mosley. Manny wants nothing to do with drug testing.

What he means by that is:

"If Mayweather gets past Ortiz, we can fight."

                As in Pacquiao vs Ortiz.
