  • XXI Century boxing - Let me explain it to you.

This is how to win a fight in the XXI century and get called a master of the sweet science by the media and the casuals.

You have to be the taller man or have the reach advantage. If that's the case, then the procedure is easy.

    Rounds 1-6:

Jab the opponent using the reach/height advantage and run. Refuse to engage in anything. (not 100% needed, in some cases you can just run and move back)
When the opponent gets inside, move forward quickly, hold and clinch to death. The opponent will try hard to get away of your clinch to hit you, and he'll be the one getting tired. You just stay quite while you hold him strong.
When the ref comes to break, you look at him with the naivest face you can put and say "sure". Pretend you don't even know why the clinch is happening, put an humble face.
Use of elbows or headbutts is optional, mix it up a little bit. It helps too.
    Repeat to death.
Then comes some warning, don't worry, the ref won't deduct points. You gotta look at the ref with humble face again and say "yes, sure" and move your gloves pretending that you are ready to fight a clean fight.
Consider that even if you get a point deducted, which is unlikely, this tactic still makes sense, you'll see.

Now, we are in 7-12 rounds. Your opponent might be a bit gassed and frustrated after all the effort of trying to get away from the clinch to hit you.
Here is when you can get more active.
Hit the gassed opponent and move, you don't have to hit with KO power, you just gotta hit to make the impression that you are beating him up. He won't be able to fight back since he is more tired than you are, and that's your advantage now. Easy rounds. You will still clinch the few times that he's able to get inside.

And that's it. Round 12 finishes, and you've won a UD 117-111 you are the undefeated master of the sweet science and the A-side.

Recent examples of the XXI Century boxing:
Wladimir Klitschko, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Andre Ward, Viktor Postol.

    ------

They've got to stop this BS. Only one clinch allowed per round. Enforce the rules. The rules are there... let the fighters FIGHT, stop this holding **** that is killing boxing.

    Excellent thread.

I hope Klitschko, Mayweather, Ward, and Postol get raped by a pack of silver back guerrillas with aids, .

So, in other words, the same things that happened in the 'XX' and 'XIX' centuries.

      Good job, G.

Some of you guys need to come to terms with the fact that the sport has passed you by. Tactical grappling is an accepted part of it now, for better or for worse. No, it's not as exciting a sport as it was in the 70's- early 90's but throwing tantrums unfortunately does little. Bolster the things you like does more than fussing about the things you hate.

If you have a height/reach advantage, why the hell would you not use it?
