  • Somebody justify a 300k payday for Stevens

Dude makes like 20k a fight on NBC. Besides being from Brooklyn, is there any other reason to get paid more than 10 times his worth?
Only other reason is K2 was bluffing and they really don't have any viable opponents.

Only justifiable reason I can think of is they need money for the health care and the funeral

Right place, right time. That's really the only reason.

What I mean by that is:
    -Martinez is out
-Chavez vs Vera at 168 next
    -Murray claims visa problems
    -Quillin on Showtime
-Barker wont fight GGG in November, likely Sturm
-Pirog not back from injury yet

Stevens got some hype from that KO and calling GGG out so perfect timing for him.

Does he deserve a $300,000 payday and a title shot? Absolutely not. He just got lucky timing.

HBO just set a bad precedent by paying a nobody 300k. Future Golovkin opponents will now be able to ask for a lot more than what they would have before.

Well... that's what they get for giving out that initial offer... 300k... really?
They only have themselves to blame for putting that idea in their head.
Also, it's K2 that offered right?

Still better than the Greenberg days of paying Berto $1.5 million to fight on an undercard.

I thought Murray got that resolved.

I can't justify the 300k but that's what he was offered for whatever reason

He's the only one (besides Mora) willing to accept a 300k payday.

HBO need to up the money if they want top contenders to get in the ring with Golovkin. Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the reality.

Yeah, you're right. K2's fault probably. I think HBO just gives them the budget and the promoters decide the split.

You're worth what someone is willing to pay you.
