Wilder-Arreola had an estimated peak of 3.2 million for the main event. The fight itself averaged 2.55 million and the overall even did 1.76 million.

It sure helps that the UFC has a massive presence online to promote their events.

SBJ rumored that the the UFC/FOX deal could see as high as $400 million annually starting in 2019.

Boxing doesn't have to outdo UFC, it just has to put up some numbers and they can snag a decent deal from FOX and the rest of the networks.

It was also one of the biggest UFC on Fox shows in 2 years.

Holm got a lot of attention post the Ronda win.

and like already mentioned, the PBC does a piss poor job of promoting. They need to bring in Tricky Dick.

You joke but the reality is most MMA fans didn't know 75% of the people fighting on this UFC card. I'd bet 90%+ didn't know who Holm was fighting. Fighting is appealing. Names don't mean as much as people think. Names get built and names fall all the time.

The thing is most sports fans don't know ANY active boxers any damn way. So making some Thurman vs Brook vs Spence round robin wouldn't mean f#ck all except to the hardcore fans who would watch all 3 of those guys vs 2nd rate contenders.

Some of you guys don't realize boxing failing or succeeding on national TV has nothing to do with hardcore fans like virtually everyone here. It has to do with recapturing sports fans imagination with boxing again and that was never going to happen quickly. And it has nothing to do with the best fights cuz the names in those fights mean nothing to the non hardcore fans who have barely watched boxing over the last 2 decades and like I said most have never watched boxing. Thurman or Joe Smith or Spence or Aron Martinez are all new names to them.

What is boxing doing wrong? This is why Boxing needs a Dana White who knows how to market a product to the internet generation. Boxing is run by some outdated ways, they still use print and radio ads.
          Ufc markets the ufc.

Boxing markets certain boxers not boxing itself.

When u ask ppl to watch ufc they say yes just to watch ufc.

When u ask ppl to watch boxing they ask who is fighting and 90% of the time they don't know who the guys fighting are and not interested.

Right but tbf the UFC format is much easier to market. Most boxing fights on TV are 48 minutes of boring. Even fights we think are solid, like Garcia vs Peterson or Guerrero, a casual fan can barely sit through, from my experience

                Ufc can be boring too.

When they do lay n pray.

Difference is the ref says screw this n stands them up. Resets the action.

Most importantly if u r boring, Dana gives u the boot.

Also ufc fighters aren't scared to take a loss.

If they lose but put on a tough fight, they're fine.

If you win but boring, ufc won't put up with it.

In boxing the most important thing is to win, even if boring. 2nd most is to lose in an unspectacular fashion ie make it to the end even if u have to run n hold.

Every fight on a UFC card is viewable. Yeah, the first 4 fights or so are on UFC Fight Pass. But the rest of the card are on FS1, FOX, or PPV. With boxing, only Top Rank will give you a chance to watch their early fights via their website. You'll get three viewable fights at most on TV.

Ufc biggest advantage is ppl watch ufc even of the fighters are unknown.

Pay attention when you order ppv.

Ufc ppv a lot of ppl watch almost every ufc fight.

Boxing ppv most ppl don't pay attention to the undercarriage and only watch the main event.

This is true, and it's got a lot to do with the way UFC talks itself up. I've watched quite a number of UFC events for a long time and I can honestly say that on average, UFC fights are more boring than boxing fights. But the commentators (who work for the UFC) will never talk down a fight or a fighter for that matter. A fighter could literally be a bum who has lost half his fights and the commentators will still find something positive say about him like "this guy is a real veteran". Or a fight might stink up the joint and they'll say something like "this is a highly tactical fight". Casual fans are very gullible and will believe most of what they say.
