      There was dinosaurs before us, so it's no stretch to think stuff like that can't exist elsewhere
      But we will likely need to go through tens of thousands of star systems and past thousands of light years before we find another civilization.

      They are almost certainly out there, probably even somewhere in our own galaxy, but they are so far away, and so few and far between that we may never be able to contact them.

      The distances are mind-boggling. It takes light tens of thousands of years to cross our galaxy. It takes light millions of years to travel to M-33 or M-31, the two nearest large galaxies.

      Sci-fi is a lot of fun, but reality is very different then those movies.
