foreman had good footwork in terms of fundamentals, he just wasn`t a dancer like ali. for his style of boxer-puncher, he moved very well.

Ive told it here before, the famous Richard Pryer joke about Foreman: Pryer says "So Ali in the ring, the referee there and here comes Foreman lumbering up to the ring, 'boom boom boom' whole damn ring is shaking as he walk...steps in and says 'which one of yal the referee? good, cause im gonna kill the other mothafvka.'"

I wouldn't be too concerned about Foreman's footwork, given the havoc his fistwork wrecked on opponents! It's like fussin' about the shade of green on the million bucks one just received...

If cutting off the ring counts as footwork, pre-Ali Foreman was excellent at that.

Cutting off the ring is indeed footwork. Chasing a puncher, letting a boxer keep the middle of the ring as real estate are examples of two things that happen when one does not cut the ring off.

If one considers that a puncher generally has to set to punch with a big shot, that a puncher has to react to the other guy, that the other guy can move when the puncher moves...and then ask how a puncher gets opportunities, especially now a days in 12 round fights, then if a puncher does not have the footwork to create angles on his opponent, he will virtually never have opportunities.
