  • Joe Calzaghe Legacy Tear down

    Look at Calzaghes legacy.

Super Middle Weight reign - 10 year plus

    Undefeated

Career defining fights against Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler

    Any thing else??

    --------

10 year reign at Super Middleweight
    -

    No History in the division

No competition in the division, he should have moved up or down occasionally

If guys like Toney or Jones stayed at the division like Calzaghe he wouldn't have reigned for 10years. They just pasted through and proved P4P greatness

    Undefeated -

Again, no competition in the division. Also if somebody like Jones wasnt just passing through division he wouldnt have been.

He waited until they aged and fought both Hopkins and Jones at the end of this career and still got dropped in the first.

Everybody knows if Calzaghe fought them around 2000/2001 he would have been whooped.

    Career defining fights -

Jeff lacy a career defining win? Calzaghe actually said this was his career defining fight.

It took him 10years after winning his title to have a big fight and against who Jeff lacy.. haha

It took him 10years after winning his title to finally get recognised in the USA and everybody knows that if your not known in the USA you are a BUM.

His career defining win was against hype, who did Lacy beat. Americans produce hype jobs and Jeff is a prime example.

Same goes with Kessler? Undefeated records are mis-leading, especially to ordinary fans who say who would win Tyson or Bruce lee, something stupid like that.

Actually, neither would fight him. Not because they were scared of him, but because he was the WBO champion from Wales nobody in the US had even heard of and they both thought, probably quite rightly, that they could make more money from a 5 minute appearance on the Jay Leno show. The only one who did want to fight him, to his credit, was Glen Johnson and about the only gripe I have will Calzaghe is that that that fight didn't happen before he retired.

I assume by 'everybody', you mean yourself? IMHO Calzaghe had at least even chances in both fights.

    Career defining fights
It was a career defining win in that it instantly gained Calzaghe the attention in the US he had never previously had. The vast majority of US commentators expected Lacy to dispose of him easily. We all know what happened.

Actually, in terms of opponents both Eubank and Veit were probably better wins, but I understand that your ignorance is such those names won't appear on your radar.
