The United States just got a terrifying glimpse into the Trumpian repression of creative thought and free speech that we may have to deal with in the future. Illma Gore, the Australian-born artist who painted the now-ubiquitous painting of a nude Donald Trump with a micropenis, was viciously assaulted by a Trump supporter on a trip back to Los Angeles. Even though Illma thought it was finally safe, the fury of the Trumpcoats proved otherwise.

The very fact that he had to go on television to assure the American people that he in fact did not have a tiny penis, but that it was tremendous and he even guaranteed us that there would be no problem is very bizarre in its own self. Discarding all the immediate vulgarity that accompanies such a question, it is worth considering why Mr. Trump thinks that we as a nation would be concerned with his tiny penis at all.

What is truly upsetting, however, is the fact that this particular issue is of great concern to the Donald – but the rampant racism, sexism, bigotry, is just shrugged aside. After all the encouragement of white supremacists, vile ethnonationalist hatred, the endorsement of torture and murder, it’s the thought that some people are making insinuations about his putrid todger are getting him riled up?

His excessively exaggerated reaction is similar to that of the Turkish dictator and burgeoning genocidaire Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has recently sued the German government and plunged the international relations of two NATO countries into crisis over a German comedian’s satirical poem that mocked the Turkish leader. Given that his supporters are already beginning to act against people who take cheap shots at everyone’s favorite fascist, the idea of how he might react to slights by other nations as the Commander-in-Chief should send a shudder down all of our spines.

We hope that that brave woman who was so viciously assaulted by a fanatical Trump supporter is healing properly, is in a safe place, and possibly back on a flight to England. This is what the people of the United States can expect from a Trump administration – knocks on the door in the night for making a simple joke about the man’s withered, weakened wedding tackle.
