Ward in my opinion is top 3pfp at the moment but he's not a box office draw, nor a fan favorite. When people criticize his relevancy or lack there of, they're referring to him being relevant as far as star power. In that aspect he's not. He lacks personality and an exciting style.

its sad that if he fought exactly the same but started uploading pictures of his genitals on instagram like broner, that he would get bigger fights.

      • Ward is not relevant right ? He must have faked the shoulder injury like PAC!!!!!!!!

Actually Ward needs to fight someone who is relevant not like his last fight but it sounds like Kovalev is in the picture

        • ward took a tune up after two year layoff... golovkin entire career has been tune ups with no injuries or layoffs. .rubios leftover it's his biggest "test". .sanchez also said willie monroe was a bigger name opponent than lara, and loeffler called senile hopkins a "future opponent"..little g is the biggest coward in boxing history

The truth is, in this day and age as a black fighter, you have to either be very controversial or and absolute killer in order to become a major draw in the sport.

They have to hate you enough to tune in to see you lose or be fascinated by your killer instincts enough to tune in to see you destroy your opponents.

            • Ward cleaned out his entire stacked division at some point and even though the 175 champ moved down to 168, Ward beat him too. Currently, there still isn't anyone that could beat him at 168. It's about time he's moved up. He should have done that after the Dawson fight.

At the end of the day, I'd say he's still pretty damn relevant but should be more active. If he was truly irrelevant, the boxing community wouldn't be speaking about GGG or Kov fighting him.

That's been pretty much the case for every race

                • Like It Or Not It's True; Ward Isn't Relevant Today

Ward had 4 fights with Goosen in court and came out of that 0-4. We'll see if he fights Kovalev. Ward fought his last fight at 172 so we'll see. Ward is just another brother-diva who loved to talk rather than get it done in the ring the same way he began his career; two different guys.

Not true. Mexicans, Ricans, Euro's, etc for the most part support all their best fighters regardless of style or personality.

Cotto has the personality of a pet rock yet his fans stand by him and show up to his fights by the masses.

Hatton had the most rabid fanbase of any fighter I can remember.

JCC Sr was worshiped as a god by his people during his height.

                    Etc..

Look at Tyson. He went to jail for rape and was as controversial as you can be and the fans still loved him. Why? Because he was a killer! People wanted to just see him destroy!

Cotto was regarded as a killer on his way up. Go on.
