  • Is it time to move the Judges away from Ringside?

With all of the controversy behind judges scorecards in fights, whether it be an out and out robbery, or a legitimately close fight that we feel could've gone either way. The question I ask with all sincerity is; Should we move the judges from Ringside and a) put them in a booth with monitors [somewhat like the NFL replay specialists] b) move them further away from Ringside above the ring, or c) leave them right where they are?

Its obvious that there are disadvantages to being Ringside, and we the fans dont have the obstacles to overcome in scoring like the judges do; as we have the advantage of camera shifts and various angles being shot so that we get an almost complete picture of whats going on in the ring.

Would any of this help keep the integrity of Boxing intact? Would it enhance the system currently in use to score fights? Or would it detract from our sport and the scoring in our sport altogether? Vote in the poll, and post your thoughts. Lookin forward to see how all ya'll feel about it, and your thoughts on the subject.

Yes. It is a relatively decent presumption that watching the fight on tv, you get a far better view than anyone ringside. Stick them in a booth watching the fight from the best angles. With replay ect.ect.

good question and maybe Im an old fuddy duddy but I say NO. I still think you can get the feel of power best from ringside. Also, its not like its just one judge. There are 3 so to me the angles dont matter that much because what one judge may miss, another may catch. It wont ever be perfect.

Us at home watching it on TV with the perfect angles also disagree all the time. We are even dumb enough to get influnced by commentators. It just will never be perfect but 3 guys on each side of the ring closest to the action is still the best bet for me.

Again, if you think something like Pac-Bradley was a robbery or whatever, you have to remember that the HBO guys sat ringside also and scored it as a mismatch for Pac. In most of these fights people call it a robbery because the HBO guys score it different than the judges but they are at ringside also

Keep it the Way it is. You get a much better feel of the action while sitting close.

Some are suggesting a replay function. I ask for what? And who should decide which replay to show anyway? Going with the standard replay from the broadcast is rubbish since such replays tend to be biased towards one fighter either because of style or because of nationality.

If anything should change then add some sort of plexi around the judge which will prevent interference from outside people during the fight.

            leave it like it is
wack decisions are always gonna happen here and there
but it doesn't happen so often that they should change things
but the monitors is a good idea
they can see a lot up close, but maybe the extra angles would help

Regarding the perceived problem of bad scoring, well it has always been there. Maybe it is worse today as some would suggest, but I reckon that might be due to the judges not scoring enough fights on a regular basis and/or inexperience in how to score fights.

But who should decide what these monitors should show?

                  guys in the production truck
they can stay focused on watching what's right in front of them
but if they choose to glance at the monitor, they can
they can have it showing the combat from an opposing angle
one that's different from whatever's straight in front of them
don't know how fast they can move around ringside
it'd be cool if they could change spots after a few rds
but one minute between rds just isn't enough for that movement

It would also help if they cracked down on the amount of 80 yearold judges.
