Talkin’ PPV Numbers with HBO Senior VP Mark Taffet
    December 1st, 2011

    By Scoop Malinowski
HBO Senior Vice President of Sports Operation and Pay-Per-View Mark Taffet discusses some recent numbers and optimism for the future…

*************: Do you have the final total pay-per-view numbers for Pacquaio-Marquez III?
Mark Taffet: ”The numbers for Pacquiao-Marquez were outstanding, we’re really excited. It’s great times in boxing to be doing million dollar events. There have been more fights generating over a million buys in the last few years than in the decade that preceded it. So it shows that there is tremendous interest in boxing. There are new fans all the time and people can’t wait to get together in a Super Bowl party-like atmosphere and enjoy a boxing match at home. So we’re very encouraged by it.”
*************: And the biggest one (Pacquiao vs. Mayweather) is yet to come…
Mark Taffet: ”Well, the biggest one is always yet to come. That’s the attitude we have about boxing in general. No matter what we’re doing on a fight or what kind of results are generated, we’re always optimistic that there’s a bigger one yet to come, so that’s part of our motivation.”
*************: In the last HBO has released the numbers publicly from most if not all events, has this policy changed recently?
Mark Taffet: ”We always release figures with the consent of the promoters. Sometimes the promoters feel that the figures are more for business consumption than for public consumption, and if they feel that way, we abide by that, no problem.”
