  • Is a manager/promoter exclusive team legal?

I keep hearing how al haymon fighters are going to sign with Richard's new promotional company.

It shouldn't be, because, by proxy, Haymon is the manager and promoter, and that's what the Ali Act was designed to prevent. Haymon would have to keep at least some of his fighters with other promotional companies, but, being as shrewd as he obviously is, he would probably let a few of his low-end guys sign with DiBella or Goosen-Tutor or basically anyone other than TR, GB or Main Events. More likely he would have some sign with Mayweather Promotions and most sign with Schaefer's company.

One of the most interesting things to come out of all this that I haven't seen or heard anyone talk about is the conflict of interest of Mayweather Promotions and Leonard Ellerbe would have with a new promotional company started by Schaefer. Obviously, Ellerbe would not want to be unseated as the head of Mayweather Promotions, but if Schaefer is starting his own company instead and all of Haymon's top fighters are signing there, what becomes of Mayweather Promotions?

Rick Glaser and Steve Kim have been the best sources on this, and Glaser tweeted today that there are big money negotiations ongoing with GBP and Schaefer. Basically, GBP is asking for big money (he says $18 million) in order to release him from a contract and the non-compete clause.

At least we will have fun watching this shake out, but we are trading a bunch of good fights for this drama. I just want the chips to fall sooner than later and start watching some fights again.

Steve Kim is on Top Rank's payroll. He is not a good source for anything unless you looking for something that complies with your nuthugging agenda.

Are you kidding with this? Kim has been the best boxing reporter of the last decade in terms of scoops and legit rumors. He has been plenty critical of the Cold War (he is even the one who coined that phrase) and has had his share of criticism for Top Rank and praise for Golden Boy over the years.

What exactly is your reasoning for that accusation?
