  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather vs. Canelo Phoenix Presser is Canceled

PHOENIX – In the wake of the devastating Arizona wildfire that killed 19 elite firefighters, the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez boxing press conference scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 2, at The Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix has been cancelled.

The press conference, which was to be open to the public, was cancelled out of respect for the firefighters who lost their lives as they battled wildfires Sunday in areas northwest of Phoenix.

A donation will be made on behalf of the promotion to The 100 Club’s Survivor Fund in memory of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a specialist team of wildfire firefighters based in Prescott, Ariz., whose members died during the tragic blaze. The 100 Club’s Survivor Fund’s mission is “to provide immediate financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.”

Damn man, I live in Phoenix and I haven't been this exciting for anything in long time. I understand the devastation and all respect to fire fighters but I don't understand what one has to do with the other.

19 FF is a big deal. I get what youre saying but pretty sure the city doesnt want to get hyped up when something this tragic just occurred

Just being around everyone here its not that devastating, people are saying yea its sad story and crazy but no ones is crying. The location of the fire from phoenix is about 100 miles which I think is why its not as impactful here. I would have paid to watch, should have donated that. It almost seems like they used this as an excuse.
